A Heart’s Silent Yearning

Hello, dear readers. It’s Meghann here. On this still night of Tuesday, August 12, 2025, I find myself alone in the silence, the gentle darkness of nature wrapping around me as the evening settles in. Each night, as the bustle of raising my four babies and managing my business fades, I’m left with a quiet that stirs a deep longing within. It’s a yearning for human connection—a voice to share the day’s highs and lows, a presence to fill the empty spaces. I ache to feel valued, to know my efforts and heart are seen and cherished beyond the roles I play. There’s a longing to belong somewhere, to find a place where I fit without needing to prove myself, and above all, a longing to be loved—not just as a mom or caregiver, but as me, fully and deeply. As I listen to Rachel Platten’s “Mercy,” its soulful plea for grace and understanding mirrors my own heart’s cry in these moments.

This solitude, while peaceful in its stillness, amplifies these longings. The silence becomes a canvas where my thoughts paint pictures of connection—imagining shared laughter over a meal, a hand to hold through life’s storms, a community that welcomes without judgment. “Mercy” weaves through this with its tender, piano-driven melody, a soundscape that feels both vulnerable and resolute. The lyrics, rich with emotion, open with the line, “I’m begging for mercy, I’m down on my knees,” a raw plea that captures the weight of longing and the need for relief. This resonates deeply as I sit here, feeling the ache of solitude. The chorus, with “Give me your mercy, let it wash over me,” transforms that plea into a hopeful prayer, suggesting a release from inner burdens—a sentiment that echoes my desire for love and belonging. The bridge, where Platten sings, “I’ll carry the weight, but I need you to stay,” strikes a chord, reflecting my yearning for a steadfast connection to lighten my load, while the song’s crescendo builds toward a promise of renewal, urging resilience amid the quiet.

There’s a beauty in acknowledging this longing, a strength in sitting with it. “Mercy” becomes a companion, its impactful lyrics serving as a lifeline. The line “I’m breaking apart, but I’m holding on tight” mirrors the tension of my solitary nights—peaceful yet heavy with unfulfilled dreams—while “your mercy will save me” offers a beacon of hope, aligning with my faith-inspired journey to find inner peace. The song’s emotional arc, from desperation to empowerment, underscores music’s power to transform solitude into a space for healing. It encourages me to seek balance, to nurture myself as I nurture others, and to hold hope that these desires might one day find their echo in the world around me.

With mercy,

Meghann
